Wildfires in Quito

(2012) I had just moved to Quito, and was surprised how little the locals were surprised with these smoke stains on the forested slopes surrounding the city.

During a two-month drought, approximately 2565 forest fires (many allegedly human-caused) burned 3796 hectares of forests, some houses and many wild animals. Luckily, no humans died, but it will take decades before the affected areas recover.
