Fundraising &

Communication

Since 2016, I've collaborated with UNICEF Ecuador on over 30 communication and fundraising missions. This journey has immersed me in diverse stories across the country, revealing the dedicated efforts of UNICEF staff to ensure programs reach their intended destinations. The photos captured during these missions are featured on their websites, virtual exhibitions, billboards, and more, contributing to the broader mission of raising awareness and support for their impactful initiatives.

2016 Earthquake

Humanitarian Response

Following the devastating earthquake in Ecuador in April 2016, UNICEF swiftly launched an emergency humanitarian response. Focused on immediate needs, UNICEF provided clean water, nutrition, healthcare, and education support to affected children and families. Hygiene kits, blankets, and temporary learning spaces were distributed, with a strong emphasis on child protection and psychosocial support. Collaborating with local authorities and partners to coordinate aid delivery, UNICEF aimed to restore normalcy and resilience to the affected communities. Additionally, through its "Return to Joy" initiative, UNICEF worked on healing the mental distress caused by the trauma, focusing on the well-being of the children impacted by the earthquake.

Life Stories

Part of my work with UNICEF involves capturing the stories of remarkable young individuals who, in various ways, contribute to their communities with a spirit of leadership and dedication that deserves to be documented. Two such stories are those of Belen Perugachi from Cayambe and Denisse Toala from Guayaquil.
Belen diligently strives to preserve her ancestral culture, ensuring that its richness does not fade over time. She imparts her customs and beliefs to her fellow adolescents in the community, fostering a sense of cultural continuity.
Denisse, witnessing the educational challenges faced by many children in her neighborhood of Monte Sinai during the COVID-19 pandemic, took the initiative to start teaching classes under a tree to anyone in need. Despite the circumstances, she became a beacon of education for those who lacked access during these challenging times.

Venezuelan Migration

Humanitarian Response

Since 2018, Latin America has seen a massive flow of migrants from Venezuela spreading throughout the south. Unicef carries out projects along the entire migration route to protect the rights of children who travel this route. On several missions we photographed the beginning of their trips in Cúcuta, Colombia, as well as in Tulcán and Huaquillas, border cities north and south of Ecuador, creating a visual record for fundraising, and showing the projects that Unicef implemented or supported in this crisis.
